What are the roles that make up an “animation staff”?

  • At the top of each staff we find the team leader (aka resort chief) whose job is to coordinate all the team’s activities, to keep contact with the company and with the management of the resort.
  • Wherever there is a larger number of staff members, there is always an animation chief, a “number two” who shares responsibilities and mainly deals with organizing and coordinating the work in the field.
  • Under the chief of staff there are the sector managers: the sports manager, the miniclub manager, the daytime or contact manager.
  • The contact manager is the entertainer who, as the name implies, seeks contact with and between guests. It takes care, alone or with the contact group, of all the games, entertainment, happenings and passages that make up the program of a village. A complex role in fact the contact manager must be a multipurpose, charismatic, nice and a little cheeky animator.
  • Paky Club animator: i.e. the Miniclub animator (more traditional definition). Working with children is complicated, you need to have the skills and enthusiasm, it is definitely not a side role! The goal? To promote knowledge among children, organize and manage playful, sporting and creative activities. Every week a show is organized, where children act as protagonists, a real musical that also sees the participation of the entertainment staff.
  • Junior and Teen Club entertainer: this is the animator who takes care of slightly older children  and teen agers (10-12 years and 13-18 years) The task is always the same: to promote mingling among children/teens and organize playful activities and sports.
  • Sports entertainer is the animator who is responsible for the organization of team sports, matches and tournaments such as soccer, beach volleyball, bowls, beach tennis ……. This role shares similarities with the role of the contact manager, but is more dedicated to sports and tournaments.
  • Fitness instructor is the animator who is responsible for proposing and managing the day’s gymnastic activities: from muscle awakening to aerobics, from aquagym to pilates or zumba. Basic requirement is the ability to teach at least one aerobic discipline.
  • Sports instructor is the sportsman who is responsible for organizing and managing courses in the disciplines of tennis, archery, swimming, football school, sailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing and biking. The requirement is to possess a patent or a good / excellent practice and sport teaching skills.
  • Hostesses and Stewards are entertainers who, in larger structures, take care of carrying out reception and service tasks: reception at the restaurant, assignment of beach-umbrellas, reservations and registrations for the various activities, accompanying excursions … The main characteristics are a strong predisposition to contact and good looks.
  • Choreographer whose main responsibility is to create and teach the choreography of the shows to all the staff, in many situations he/she is the director of the evening programming.
  • Set designer is the one who creates and assembles the staging of shows and evenings. He must have good practice in designing, especially on large dimensions, a carpentry base for the set-ups and creating and managing props.
  • Sound / light technicians and deejays manage the audio-lighting systems of the village with particular attention to the amphitheater. They assemble and dismantle the mobile systems (swimming pool and beach). They perform the function of deejay for dance evenings. In larger staffs this role can be split into two.

Summer 2021: will there be protocols to be respected in the village?

It is useless to ignore it, in recent months we are learning to live with covid and, in the wake of the experience of 2020, we are preparing for a summer in which we will still have to respect some limitations. They will probably be less stringent than in 2020 thanks to vaccines and a more manageable situation, but we will certainly be ready to defend ourselves.

  • We will still have to maintain strict compliance with basic protective measures such as hand hygiene, avoid touching the eyes, nose and mouth and use the aids that will be recommended especially in moments of transition between activities.
  • We will have to respect the instructions of animation chief of staff who will still have to act as “Covid Manager” and help him enforce the regulations of the structure.
  • Above all, we will have to be respectful of the limitations because we will be seen as an example by the children and guests of the structure.

But it will all be easier thanks to the experience of last summer.

Internship Online: a new frontier of training. Here are the Viva Days Smart edition

Lock down, distancing, smart working, distance learning … these are terms that have captured the collective imagination in recent months. Unfortunately, due to the health situation, for the moment it is not possible for us to organize “face-to-face” auditions and internships and for this reason we have taken steps to create an online selection and a training path suitable for present times, nonetheless original and engaging. Ours does not want to be and is not the usual boring and scholastic online training, but it is full of practical tests, challenges and role playing that help candidates understand the animation experience at its core. Of course we cannot forget that a first-time animator needs information and contents, but even those are offered in a modern, multimedia and fun way. We are actually experiencing a time that seems suspended but let’s not waste it! We do not offer the usual webinar training, but a truly free online experience dedicated to those who have decided to become an entertainer for the summer. These modules are meant to express one’s personality; interactive and engaging training moments that allow the candidate to express their talent and necessary for tutors to be able to transmit the principles of the work and prepare the candidate for the first experience.

What do we really need to put in the “animator’s suitcase”?

The Season is about to begin and the most popular question is always the same “What should I put in my suitcase?”

This little handbook will help you not to carry an excessively bulky luggage: what shouldn’t be missing?

Upon your arrival you will be provided with the uniforms: badges, t-shirts, polo shirts, tank tops, swim shorts, sports shorts, sweatshirt. As for daytime work, you don’t have to think about anything!

Linen (sheets, pillowcases, blankets, towels) are also provided in the village with a weekly change so (unless you have special needs) it is not necessary to bring them from home.
First of all, the clothing for the rehearsal of the shows: comfortable shirts, shorts and / or sweatpants and a sweatshirt that you don’t mind getting dirty or sweating.
Trainers for working during the day and a pair of flip-flops for the beach and pool area. Some changes of clothing for free days and evenings without dress code. Here you can bring your favorite changes, but keep in mind that we are in a tourist village frequented by families and children, try to stay within the limits of good taste.

Swimwear especially for women. The shorts of the uniform are made to enter the water but the top piece is missing!
If you have special clothing such as costumes, fun gadgets, particularly eccentric accessories, bring them! Being an animator also means this. Don’t buy anything if you don’t have it but there are some items that remain in the closet because you think they are “a bit too much”, the village is the right opportunity to wear them!
Bring an elegant change of clothing: the Gala evening is present in all our villages and it is a great relief to be able to dress up in the best way after spending all day in a uniform!
Personal effects: if you use it, bring a hairdryer, a small supply of shower gel and shampoo as well as, of course, a toothbrush and toothpaste. Within the villages it is possible to buy these products but, at least initially, they might come handy.
Sunglasses and hats are not always allowed but become essential on intense sunny days. If you have at least a couple at home, bring them, they can come in very useful!
No need to add underwear to the list!
In conclusion, the advice is to avoid excesses because you won’t need a thousand clothes or two hundred pairs of shoes.

Don’t forget to bring some basic medicines (Oki, Tachipirina, Antihistamine), when needed they can be essential travel companions.

Close the suitcase and … HAVE A GOOD TRIP!
